In 1961, if you worked in an office in central Liverpool and you knew where to look, you had a secret.

Every weekday at 12:00 noon, you could slip out of work, duck down a narrow side street, descend into a basement nobody else in the building knew existed, and watch the best live music in England — while eating a sandwich. They called them the Lunchtime Sessions. Office workers in suits and secretaries on their break formed the first audience of what would become the biggest band in the world. They paid a shilling to get in. They brought packed lunches. They were back at their desks by 1:30.

Years later, some of those same office workers would tell their grandchildren: “I saw them before anyone. And I was eating a cheese sandwich.”

About this design: A large vintage round wall clock shows exactly 12:00 noon, mounted on red brick. Below the clock, a single chrome microphone on a short stand catches a warm amber spotlight. At the top: LUNCHTIME SESSIONS. Below: 12:00 NOON • MATHEW ST. And at the very bottom, in friendly handwritten script: bring a sandwich.
