In 1961, the band walking the streets of Liverpool and the back alleys of Hamburg looked nothing like the polite boys you’d see on a Sunday variety show. They wore black leather motorcycle jackets — Perfecto biker styles, cafe racer cuts, some with silver studs, some with guitar straps draped permanently over one shoulder. They looked like a gang. They played like one too.

Then a quiet record store owner walked into their basement club, took one look at them, and decided they were going to be the biggest band in the world — but only if they stopped dressing like hoodlums. The leather jackets went into closets. But the leather came first. The leather is who they actually were.

About this design: Four distinct black leather motorcycle jackets hang in a row on a simple backstage clothing rail — each one slightly different. A Perfecto biker with asymmetric zip. A shorter cafe racer. One with silver studs. One with a guitar strap draped over the shoulder. Dramatic overhead lighting. No faces, no names — just four jackets that remember who wore them.
