In 1967, a four-year-old girl in London came home from kindergarten with a drawing of her classmate surrounded by stars. She told her father the drawing was called “Lucy in the sky with diamonds.” Her father, who happened to be a songwriter, turned the drawing into a song. The song became one of the most famous psychedelic anthems ever recorded.

That was the official story. Everyone assumed the song was about something else. The songwriter swore it wasn’t. Either way, for sixty years, anyone hearing the song has been invited to the same place: a sky filled with diamonds where a girl they don’t know is waiting to be found.
