At 1:20 PM on Sunday, February 7, 1964, Pan American Flight 101 from London Heathrow touched down at New York’s JFK Airport. Waiting on the tarmac were approximately three thousand fans — the largest airport welcome in American history at that point.

Two days later, seventy-three million people would watch them on television. But this was the moment before that moment. This was the landing that began the British Invasion.
